About Therapists in MS

The 'Therapists in MS' initiative was started by a number of therapy professionals in 2004 and it brings together UK allied health professionals who share a special interest in Multiple Sclerosis.

Mission

To improve MS services within the UK, through the promotion and development of the therapist's role in the holistic care and management of people with multiple sclerosis.

Aims

  • To be a proactive voice for UK therapists to influence the development of services for people affected by MS.
  • To support UK therapists who have an interest in MS through the sharing of expertise and best practice.
  • To increase awareness of the therapist's role in MS amongst other health/social care professionals and stakeholders.
  • To recognise and raise the profile of the increasing number of therapists working at a specialist level in MS.
  • To develop educational initiatives which provide support for UK therapists with an interest in MS.
  • To encourage therapists to undertake and publish research in the field of MS.
  • To forge links with other professional MS organisations, both nationally and internationally.

The Therapists in MS initiative is supported and facilitated by the Multiple Sclerosis Trust

At present a Core Group of 25 therapists are working on various projects with address these Aims.

Staying in touch with Therapists in MS

The Therapists in MS Contact Directory is designed to facilitate communication and support amongst therapists who have specialist knowledge of MS.

Over 150 therapists with a special interest in MS are listed in this online Directory and are willing to share their MS knowledge and experience with other therapy professionals.

All therapists listed on the Contact Directory automatically receive updates about the progress of current Therapists in MS projects and activities.

If you are a therapist with expertise in MS, you may like to consider adding your details to the contact directory. In order to do so you must fulfill at least one of the following criteria:

  • Possess expertise in a specific area of MS
  • Work in a specialist MS role
  • Have experience of MS related research
  • Have experience of initiating or developing MS services
  • Have responsibility for a particularly high MS caseload

Whilst this body primarily promotes therapy for people with MS, representatives of any professional groups currently recognised by the Health Professions Council who fulfil the above criteria are invited to include their details on this Directory.
